Turpentine Beetles

Turpentine beetles are attracted to injured, weak, or dying trees. This type of beetle creates tubes of pitch on the bottom bark of trees, and you will see small holes in the trunk of the tree. The needles in the crown of the tree will turn yellow in the beginning. Then they will look to be a brownish orange to a reddish brown color. These beetles look to be legless with brown heads. Adult beetles burrow under bark, and lay their eggs. When the larvae hatch from the eggs they feed by tunneling through the bark. In the tunnels they form pupae and emerge as adults. These beetles can kill your tree.
